Puking 101

Ok.....so here's a question:

What do you do when you are driving down the road, with your 1 1/2 year old, 20 miles from home (which is still far from anything), and she pukes all down her front, has a puddle she's sitting in, and is crying?

How is she now? I had this happen when Bekah and Caleb were young. Caleb was still in a car seat. We were traveling from Independence, Mo to Osage Beach. Luckily we hadn't gotten too far from my sister's house so we turned around and went back. The kicker was they had left for church and we had to wait for them to get home. Meanwhile both kids were puking in their front yard. They had both gotten food poisoning from eating corn dog nuggets. Wasn't fun at all!

Hope Olivia has recovered! Since I have never experienced this with either kid (knock on wood), I was trying to come up with some helpful advice. After a while I realized that I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what I would have done in that pukey situation. So I consulted a seasoned mother of 4 who had experienced the exact same thing. Luckily she had a beach towel in her trunk so she stripped him down, used tons of wipes to clean up the mess, and lined the carseat with the towel and wrapped the extra around him once he was buckled. Her hard-learned advice: keep a stash of wipes, paper towels, and a change of clothes in your trunk at all times. She also keeps an extra towel as well as keeps their seats lined with towels so they don't get ruined. Just when we thought life with kids couldn't get any more complicated :-).... Hope move-in day was a success and you are quickly getting settled (well, as settled as you can be just days away from impending birth :-)!!!! Keep me posted! Kristen

Obviously Olivia is fine now, but as one of your posts said, I keep a lot of wipes in the car along with a couple towels. For awhile, I even kept a change of clothes. Daniel was notorious for getting car sick. You clean them up as best you can, keep on moving, and then finish the job once you get to your destination.
